Letmejoin

For Telegram groups that use manual approval of new members, Letmejoin helps ease the workload. Telegram doesn’t remember people you’ve already approved. Letmejoin does, and automatically approves them when they return.

It diligently remembers everyone you let in. Known members pass through; unfamiliar people wait for an admin to decide.

Take control of join requests

Letmejoin can also help you handle join requests. Your group’s join-request list in Telegram is a little buried and can become overwhelming. Here’s how to take control of it.

Use the /notify command to tell Letmejoin which group you want notifications for. Each join request then appears as a message in your chat with Letmejoin, where you can act on it immediately. Because it’s a normal chat, you can mute it or put it in a folder — it’s up to you.

If your group doesn’t have a public @handle, provide the linked channel’s @handle instead.

1. 🟢 Approve lets them in, and Letmejoin remembers them.
2. 🟡 Watch does the same, then sends you a link to their first message—useful for people you’re unsure about.
3. 🔴 Ignore declines the request and any further requests from that account for the next 24 hours. One person can’t keep knocking.

Deciding at the door

The fight against spam feels like an arms race. The side with more resources forces the other to catch up. Because the spam industry has a stronger incentive, it is likely to come out on top.

Keeping up requires constant effort and computing power: filters must be continually updated to recognize new clues in profiles and messages. Better filters only push the spam industry to find new patterns that punch through them.

Manual member approval sidesteps that: nobody posts until they are let in. That removes pressure on admins to react immediately. Chats don’t fill with spam while an admin is away. The catch is that the whole queue is on you to process. I made Letmejoin to reduce unnecessary actions and keep noise to a minimum.

Only humans talking

Letmejoin needs one permission—Add Members—and nothing else. It doesn’t read or delete messages, and it cannot ban anyone. This is by design. There are no false positives caused by a machine.

It posts nothing in the group. Nobody has to solve a captcha or talk to a bot in front of the whole group to get in. Members never have to interact with it.

How to try it

Letmejoin is currently in private beta. I’ll help you set it up. It holds no irreplaceable data, so there’s no lock-in.

Once you’re in:

1. Add Letmejoin to the group as an admin.
2. Give it the “Add Members” permission.
3. Leave member approval switched on.
4. Send /notify if you want join requests to appear in your chat with Letmejoin. The /demo command shows you what they look like.
